**Score: 8/10 — A Bold, Nostalgic, and Slightly Silly Return to Eternia** After decades of false starts and failed attempts, the live action *Masters of the Universe* has finally arrived, and it's a thoroughly entertaining, if slightly uneven, homage to the beloved 80s cartoon. Director Travis Knight (\*Bumblebee\*) has crafted a film that is **interesting and somewhat brave** in the direction it takes, clearly a love letter to the animated series, with characters that remain quite faithful to their source material. It's bright, breezy, and brimming with heart, even if its jokey tone occasionally undermines the peril. **What Works: Production, Performances, and Fan Service** The **production, costumes, and sets are first class**. Eternia is brought to vibrant, Asgardian like life, and the world feels lush and authentic. It's a significant step up from the 1987 version, spending most of its runtime in Eternia rather than on Earth. The **standout performances** elevate the material. **Idris Elba** is perfectly cast as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, bringing courage, wisdom, and dry humour to the mentor role. **Jared Leto** is a genuine revelation as Skeletor; he's having the time of his life under all that makeup, delivering a villain who is simultaneously menacing, ridiculous, insecure, and genuinely funny. **Alison Brie** rounds out the trio as a compelling Evil-Lyn. **Nicholas Galitzine pulls off He-Man... but only just**. He excels as the bumbling, fish-out-of-water Prince Adam, bringing comedic timing and a relatable vulnerability. However, his "over-reliance on sensitivity" can feel a bit un-He-Man-like, and his performance sometimes feels better aligned with a TV movie than a big budget spectacle. The film is also packed with fan service, featuring appearances from familiar faces like Cringer, Ram-Man, and Fisto. With **multiple post-credit scenes** including a mid-credits stinger introducing a mysterious woman with a familiar sword (Adora, aka She-Ra), and a final scene teasing Skeletor's return, it's clear they intend to keep the story going. **What Holds It Back** The film is **too jokey**. While most of the humour lands, it often undercuts the danger, with even Skeletor aiming for laughs rather than terror. The plot is predictable and riddled with the occasional plot hole, and some of the CGI is distractingly weak. It's a film that doesn't quite have all the power, but it's an infectiously entertaining romp that will be sure to delight both long time fans and newcomers. **The Verdict** *Masters of the Universe* is a fun, colourful, and campy thrill ride that embraces its source material with affection and a knowing wink. While its jokey tone and occasionally clunky execution prevent it from reaching the heights of a masterpiece, its heart, production values, and standout performances make it an **8/10**. The multiple post-credit scenes set up a universe with promising potential, and it will be good to see what transpires. **Watch if:** You're a fan of the classic animated series, enjoy bright and breezy fantasy adventures, or want to see Jared Leto have the time of his life as a wonderfully ridiculous Skeletor. **Skip if:** You require a serious, grounded fantasy epic or are easily put off by a jokey tone that sometimes undermines the stakes.

At the beginning of the movie I was really not happy that it was that silly from the get-go. I personally would've really wished to get a "real" in-Eternia movie and not a "real world" thing. But relatively quickly, the movie did start to work for me. I really enjoyed how fitting the outfits of the named characters were done, especially Trapjaw, Man-at-Arms, Beastman and Mekaneck. While the "real world" humor was okay for me but not something I would've needed, the humor about some ridiculous parts of the franchise, like how the characters got their names, poses imitating the TV show poses and such, were really done well. Despite the differences to the cartoon show, it really feels like the people who did the movie actually enjoyed working with the franchise. The story is fine, a typical "origin story" with some plot-armor and deus-ex-machina events, but contrary to some other movies, these actually fit the "stereotypical warriors of light" theme that He-Man ultimately is. So, if you can accept that the beginning of the movie has the "real world" shenanigans and humor, I think you'll enjoy it as a fan of the old TV show.\ And it could certainly work as a "prequel" on how He-Man became the "more serious warrior of light" later on. Needs more Cringer, though! But yeah, overall, an entertaining movie if you don't take your Masters of the Universe too seriously, many really fun eastereggs, and I hope that, despite the "meh" box office results, we will get a sequel or spin-off at some point.
