The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - Watch Movie

A fantasy action adventure film that is based on the first book of Cassandra Clare from The Mortal Instruments series. It stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Lena Headey, Kevin Durand, Aidan Turner, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, CH Pounder, Jared Harris and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones follows a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, Clary Fray (Lily Collins) who finds herself caught in a world hidden within our own and in a quest that involves saving her mother from the demons that attacked and taken her from their home. She soon discover that she came in a bloodline of shadowhunters and must follow her destiny and be involved in the war of good and evil. Here's a plot summary from Wikipedia for a detailed description of the movie: Brooklyn teenager Clary Fray goes with her best friend Simon Lewis to a nightclub, and witnesses a murder. Even with Simon by her side, Clary seems to be the only actual witness to the crime. At the club she meets shadowhunter Jace Wayland and is catapulted into a world that has so far been unknown to her. She then discovers that her mother, Jocelyn, has been attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a man named Valentine in his search of an object known as the Mortal Cup. She gets in touch with her new friend, Jace, and his adoptive siblings and fellow shadowhunters, Alec and Isabelle Lightwood, to help her on her quest to rescue her mother. Along the way Clary finds out the truth that her mother had wanted to protect her from, about her past and bloodline and how she, like Jace, Alec and Isabelle, is a shadowhunter, which are half-angel, half-human warriors. Clary is shocked to learn that her mother is also a shadowhunter and that she too has the powers of one, and she must master her powers in time to save her mother from Valentine. Using her newfound gifts, Clary finds the Cup that her mother safely hid, only to be betrayed and forced to let it slip into the wrong hands. Clary must fight to reclaim the Cup and save her mother before it is too late, and soon she finds herself caught in a battle between forces of good and evil that she barely understands. The movie was directed by Harald Zwart, director of the 2010 The Karate Kid and The Pink Panther 2. City of Bones will be followed by City of Ashes which is based on the second book of The Immortal Instruments series.

I have not read the books. Judging by the reviews from people who have read them that seems to be a good thing as most of them seem to complain that the movie is not a good representation of the books. Then, when looking at the book ratings at Goodreads there seems to be a rather large spread between reviews loving the book and reviews hating it. If I had read the books I would expect them to sit on my young adult shelf in Goodreads. At least the movie is clearly for a teenage audience. Nevertheless it is quite entertaining as far as I am concerned. A bit silly and predictable at times but still entertaining. I would even call it a family movie although there where some scenes that might be a bit scary for the youngest ones in the family. The story is yet another variant of the classical young girl or boy discovers that there are things that go bump in the night and also that she is part of those things. I have to say that I quite like those kind of stories. As I wrote I found the movie quite entertaining but, although I cannot say that I have anything specific to complain, the movie never really lifts itself above the average crowd of entertaining movies. The special effects are ok but nothing more, the acting is average, the story is okay and so on. It was enjoyable 130 minutes and I never felt bored but I never went wow either. By the way, it never became clear to me why this episode was called City of Bones though. Maybe that is one of the things that the movie left out from the books.

Bad and disjointed movie created at the warmth of Harry Potter and Hunger Games series. Only, this time doesn't work at all. Lot's of FX for an incoherent and boring story. Worst of all, no reason to call this episode "City of Bones" since it doesn't play a major role, at all. At least, not in the movie.
